Matt Butler

LISW-S, LICDC-CS

I have a wide array of experience and qualifications across many populations and practice settings. I’ve spent nearly twenty years in the mental health field, and the most important thing that has taught me is the fact that each of us is the biggest expert in our own journey. I primarily work with adults at this point.

My approach to therapy is collaborative, eclectic, supportive, and varies from client to client, depending upon individual preferences and needs.

I love cooking, reading, and video games. I really enjoy learning, and would always rather be busy than bored (which ends up causing me all sorts of problems).

I would love the chance to meet with you and discuss whether we’re a good fit for each other!

Kellie Butler

LISW-S

I’ve lived and worked in a small town in Northeast Ohio for my entire life, including thirteen years as a therapist. I value the importance of individual lived experience and the ability of each person to make their own decisions.

My approach to therapy emphasizes getting to know you: as a human being, as an individual, and as a person who deserves respect, compassion and choice. I’m passionate about helping you figure out the next steps you’d love to take or where to find the support support you’ve been missing in your life.

I love reading, movies, and music. In my spare time, I teach at several different universities and play with my dogs as much as they’ll let me.

I’ve had a lot of experience with children, adolescents, adults and older adults. No matter who you are, I’d love the chance to meet with you and talk about how I might be able to help.

Our Areas of Treatment Focus

Those experiencing grief and loss

The storms of sudden and traumatic loss are never easy to weather, and assistance & support through this difficult time often requires a specialized set of skills. We’ve both been passionate about helping folks manage loss for over a decade, particularly loss due to suicide. If you’re looking for a therapist with a great deal of experience in helping clients navigate their grief, reach out!

The COVID-Conscious Community

Those who continue to take any degree of precautions related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic often have to deal with isolation, misunderstandings, and feelings of being left behind. Life has not returned to “normal” for millions of Americans, and it can be a real challenge to find a therapist who is unwilling to consider your struggles to be your fault. Put plainly, we will not try and convince you that your struggles regarding this crisis are your own fault.

Neurodivergence

It is often very difficult to determine the best, healthiest ways to explore our own struggles to fit into a majority culture which often seeks to promote sameness, homogeneity, and minimize difference. The reality is that many of us do not fit into those neat boxes, and We’re committed to helping you move forward in a fashion which feels true to you.

LGBTQ+ Folks

The LGBTQ+ community is currently under an unprecedented series of attacks. It is an extremely difficult time to identify as anything other than cisgender and heterosexual. We have had a great deal of experience in offering support and resources to those who are living their authentic truth regardless of public sentiment. We strive to provide a safe space for you, and remain committed to standing against these attacks as allies.

FAQs

  • We are in-network with most major health insurance companies, in addition to Medicaid and Medicare. If you wish to pay out-of-pocket, this may also be an option. In addition, we have a sliding fee scale for those who are struggling financially. If you’re wondering whether we accept your insurance plan, just ask.

  • At this time, counseling with Matt and Kellie is only offered via a secure online video platform. In some circumstances, phone sessions may be an option.

  • We offer training in both in-person or virtual formats, depending upon what best fits your needs. If you are located more than 30 minutes from Ashtabula, Ohio, it will be more difficult for us to come to you for an in-person training.

  • Since availability fluctuates based on many factors, it’s always going to be better for you to ask whether we have space available on our caseload rather than guessing!

  • Sure, why not? Yay for you! Good job!

  • Well, yes. We’d consider ourselves more geeks than nerds, but call us what you like. We think that guilty pleasures shouldn’t involve guilt, if that answers your question!
